Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird Denial-of-Service Vulnerability

Mozilla · Firefox and Thunderbird

Summary

The flaw is in how Mozilla Firefox (before 22.0 and ESR 17.x before 17.0.7) and Thunderbird (before 17.0.7 and ESR 17.x before 17.0.7) handle onreadystatechange events during page reloading, which can lead to an attempt to execute data at an unmapped memory location. A remote attacker who lures a user to a crafted web site, which requires user interaction and no authentication, can crash the application for a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code.

Official description · NVD

Mozilla Firefox before 22.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.7, Thunderbird before 17.0.7, and Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.7 do not properly handle onreadystatechange events in conjunction with page reloading, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted web site that triggers an attempt to execute data at an unmapped memory location.
