Linux Kernel Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Linux · Kernel

Summary

The futex_requeue function in kernel/futex.c of the Linux kernel, through version 3.14.5, fails to ensure that its two futex addresses differ, a flaw in the Kernel product's futex handling. A local user with low privileges and no user interaction can send a crafted FUTEX_REQUEUE command to cause unsafe waiter modification and thereby gain elevated privileges.

Official description · NVD

The futex_requeue function in kernel/futex.c in the Linux kernel through 3.14.5 does not ensure that calls have two different futex addresses, which allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted FUTEX_REQUEUE command that facilitates unsafe waiter modification.
