Linux Kernel Out-of-Bounds Access Vulnerability
Linux · Kernel
The Linux kernel's USB audio driver (ALSA usb-audio, affecting Extigy and Mbox devices) can perform out-of-bounds memory accesses because it does not account for a bogus USB device reporting a configuration count larger than the buffer the kernel allocated for it. An attacker needs to be able to attach a malicious USB device to the local system, which requires local access and at least low privileges, and no user interaction is needed once the device is connected.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: usb-audio: Fix potential out-of-bound accesses for Extigy and Mbox devices A bogus device can provide a bNumConfigurations value that exceeds the initial value used in usb_get_configuration for allocating dev->config. This can lead to out-of-bounds accesses later, e.g. in usb_destroy_configuration.
