Sudo Inclusion of Functionality from Untrusted Control Sphere Vulnerability

Sudo · Sudo

Summary

The flaw is in Sudo, the privilege-escalation utility, before version 1.9.17p1, where the handling of the --chroot option means that /etc/nsswitch.conf is taken from a directory the user controls, which is an inclusion of functionality from an untrusted control sphere. A local user with low privileges and no user interaction can exploit this to obtain root access on the affected system.

Official description · NVD

Sudo before 1.9.17p1 allows local users to obtain root access because /etc/nsswitch.conf from a user-controlled directory is used with the --chroot option.
