Microsoft Windows Authenticode Signature Verification Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
Microsoft · Windows
The Authenticode Signature Verification function in Microsoft Windows (including XP SP2/SP3, Server 2003 SP2, Vista SP2, Server 2008 SP2/R2/R2 SP1, Windows 7 Gold/SP1, and Windows 8 Consumer Preview) fails to properly validate the digest of signed portable executable (PE) files, which is an improper input validation flaw. An attacker can execute arbitrary code by supplying a modified PE file containing additional content, but the attack requires user interaction, such as the victim opening or processing the file, and the attacker must deliver the file to them.
